Mimic is an ode to the rich colours, complex patterns, and unique textures of some of nature’s smallest creatures: insects. Informed by Sally’s background in Biological science and a lifelong fascination with the natural world, this project explores how the intricacies of bugs can be reimagined through a fashion and beauty lens. 

With beauty as the focal feature in this editorial, each look draws inspiration from a different insect; butterflies, moths, and beetles. Placing emphasis on their metallic, iridescent, rough, fuzzy or embellished qualities, they are translated by use of light-reflecting makeup products, patterned garments, and considered styling choices.

Through a dynamic and vibrant visual narrative, the purpose of this project is to create an otherworldly space, linking science with artistic expression.
